What actual people say about the Waterways Chaplaincy
Facebook can have a reputation for being down about things with keyboard warriors sometimes stirring things up and not for good. We were delighted to come across a comment by Mandy who gave us permission to repeat her comments.
“Since the Church and I parted company under very painful and long lasting circumstances (for me), I have been overly sensitive and defensive towards Christians who talk the good talk and yet do nothing to help their neighbour. Who preach love and forgiveness and yet feel it’s their duty to judge, condemn and even show open hatred for certain sections of society. More below…
Step forward the Waterway Chaplains and take a bow.
Boaters, in common with other travelling communities are at best ignored by civil society and at worst vilified. The waterways chaplains aren’t on the water to preach, but to help. No matter how shabby the boat or how difficult the boater, or problem, they will step up to help in practical ways. Many in this group have been helped by them and I believe even the most ardent atheist will say that these people actually show love and kindness and support to the lowest of the low and expect nothing in return.” (MW)
“They blessed me greatly when I was mentally ill & frightened – I was so very grateful for how quickly they mobilised and got straight back to me with practical personalised help & comfort. If they are the hands and feet of Jesus, then that is most definitely what I experienced last year.” (K)
“They have helped several friends in times of hardship or just needed some help.
Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs that little hand up.” (H)
